The course will focus on the Kennedy family and their times. It is set against the backdrop of Cold War tensions, the bitterly fought campaign for civil rights for African Americans, the threat posed by organised crime and the concern over entrenched poverty. JFK's promise of 'a new frontier' in American politics is examined. His handling of the Cuban Missile crisis will be a focal point. How good a president was JFK?
