Each week, the class will discuss the science behind the big issues facing Australians in the 21st century. Could Australia derive all its energy needs from renewable energy, and what would be the implications? Could humans colonise other planets? What are the implications if Australia adopts nuclear energy? Can food production be increased to meet rising demands of a growing world population? What are the key environmental challenges that will confront our grandchildren? The class runs in conjunction with Zoom class SO3.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Tuesday 11.15am - 12.30pm. Classes started 21 April, finish 23 June.

About the Tutor:
Marty has always been fascinated by science. In his native New York, he graduated with a bachelors degree in Chemistry, worked for a pharmaceutical company, and did a PhD (City University of New York). He moved to Canada, where he worked as a science writer for a chemical engineering magazine (and married an Aussie), and then moved to England to start a new chemistry magazine. In 1982, he relocated to Brisbane and spent most of his career in the Queensland Government. Most recently, he managed a grants program that funded companies developing energy-efficient and water-saving technology.Enrolments have closed for Term 2.
