L18 Beowulf

Tutor: Kay Smith
Beowulf is a seminal text in Anglo-Saxon literature, required reading in many courses. But Beowulf is also a ripping yarn. It has feasting and fighting. It has a monster and his mother. It has a dragon in its barrow and an underwater home. This term we will continue our reading of the poem having reference to the language of the poem, the peculiar Anglo-Saxon verse form, the culture of the time and its possible links to English society today.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Tuesday 11.15am - 12.30pm. Classes started 21 April, finish 23 June.
Cost: $50 (prepaid), 10 weeks
Current Enrolments: 7  (maximum 16)

To better understand the culture surrounding Beowulf, it would be preferable to have a facing page edition of the text.

Enrolments have closed for Term 2.
