We meet online fortnightly to review what we've read, supported by a presentation of relevant videos, images and excerpts from the book. This term it's The West - A New History of an Old Idea by archaeologist-historian Naoise Mac Sweeney, Professor of Classical Archaeology, the University of Vienna. Drawing on the lives of 12 notable individuals from history, Naoise questions the conventional view that Western Civilisation is a golden thread leading from classical antiquity to the societies of our Modern West - and involving no-one else to speak of!
