H05 An Introduction to Cornish History and Culture

This is the blurb for H05 in term 4...H05 is a 20 week course. In term 4, we will cover Part 2 of the course and ask the question: 'What Happened in Cornish History that was unique?' We look at Cornwall during medieval times, its part in the Wars of the Roses, and its response to the rise of the Tudor Dynasty. We move into the 16th Century and the Reformation, a period of resistance, rebellion and treason - this is the area in which your tutor is among a few active researchers. We also examine Cornwall's role during the First Civil War - did they favour the King or Parliament? And why? Hope to see you there! .
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Friday 11.00am - 12.15pm. Classes started 10 October, finish 12 December.
Cost: $50 (prepaid), 10 weeks

About the Tutor:

Cheryl HaydenDr Cheryl Hayden is a former teacher, journalist, media advisor and communications manager. She has spent the last 20 years researching and writing about her ancestral homeland, Cornwall, with particular interest in the Cornish response to the Reformation during the second half of the 16th Century, a topic which formed the basis for her PhD. Cheryl has published numerous short stories and academic papers, and one novel. Her most recent project has been the transcription of her grandfather's World War I diary, written during his service aboard HMAS Australia. This has been accessioned by museums in Australia and Scotland.
